riches i hold in light esteem,
and love i laugh to scorn,
and lust for fame was but a dream,
that vanished with the morn...
and if i pray the only prayer,
that moves my lips for me,
is leave the heart that now i bear,
and give me liberty....
as my swift days near their goal,
it's all i want to endure,
in life and death a chainless soul,
with courage to endure...

are we really living in a democratic country?
last month i was caught by the traffic police for talking over the phone while driving. had to hand over my licence and was called for hearing in the mulund court on the 8th of feb. i reported duly in the court but was disgusted by the condition of the court. we were waiting for our hearing and people who were found guilty for whatever reasons were made to sit in a room resembling a police lock up. after a while somebody sitting there requested the police officer to speed up the procedures as he had to report to work. the policeman -a "marathi manoos" lost his cool and started abusing and hitting the man asking him if he was the pm, the president, the cm or a police officer. later he also had the audacity to tell the man that he'l frame him and charge him with crimes he's not committed. i was shocked to see that other police officers, advocates etc. didn't say a word to this police officer when he kept pulling, pushing, hitting and shouting like a madman. all this because the man told the police that he was here to collect his licence and he hadn't stolen anything.
after being a witness to something so grave i really wonder if we TRULY live in a democratic country. what happened to our freedom of speech? is it wrong to ask a government servant something? are we to keep our mouth shut and listen to the cheap and foul languages used by them so as to get our work done?does a common layman have no rights, no dignity that he is treated like a dog by the government servants who get paid by the tax that the common man pays? is it necessary to be a president, pm or a cm to get the respect that every individual is entitled to? NO. n it is our responsibility to stand up against such misdeeds. it is every individual's responsibility. it is MY responsibility. n I will stand up against it.
due to this sudden melodrama i was told to go back the nex day for my licence. i did as i was told and stood in the courtroom saying "gunah kabool" to the judge. later when i was being handed over my licence the person in charge told me "madam i came early for your sake, else u would have to wait for really long:" in all my innocence i gave him a huge smile and thanked him from the bottom of my heart. later i realized that i was being asked for a bribe very subtly! guess some things never change! lol. this is really how our system works. we'l move ahead as a nation only when these issues are nipped at the bud. n I will contribute to bring about a change.
that's al for now. tc. lots of luv. avoir. jgd.
